Proudly Polynesian, fiercely Oceanian Located in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean, Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia. Since the Tahitian Sailing Federation split from France in the 1980s, a handful of local sailors have reached the highest level of sailing, including world champion Billy Besson and Team Tahiti skipper Teva Plichart, 2007 European Match Racing champion and Areva’s Louis-Vuitton Challengers wincher. In 2017, the « Trésors de Tahiti » team finished 2nd in the Tour de France à la Voile. Manutea Mahai, a young local fisherman, was part of this crew, nicknamed « the Tahitian Rastarockets » by the French press, after the 1990s blockbuster. SSL Team Tahiti will be a reboot of this fantastic project that mixed professionals and young local amateur sailors. Their goal is to surprise the best European teams as complete outsiders. Tahitians are never better than when they come together to show the rest of the world their seafaring skills. STATISTIQUES LE PAYS PALMARÈS CLASSEMENT SSL ÉVÉNEMENTS PRINCIPAUX Despite its small population (220,000 inhabitants), 4 Tahitians have become World Champions. Teva Plichart After competing in Hobie Cat races in Tahiti, Teva joined the French National Youth Match Racing Team. He then raced professionally with Sébastien COL, winning the European Championship in 2006. In 2007, he sailed « Tahiti et ses Îles » in the Tour de France à la Voile, finishing second. He repeated this result 10 years later with « Trésors de Tahiti. » From 2016 to 2019, he sailed on Yliam Comptoir Immobilier, winning the famous Bol d’Or in 2021. Yann Rigal Manutea Mahai Surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, Tahiti is the ideal playground for young sailors. The Tahiti Elite Voile program has trained five professional sailors, including two local fishermen: Manutea Mahai and his cousin Teahio Mahai. These two talented sailors were part of the 2017 Tour Voile adventure. They will be joined by Tom Lamotte, a promising young Polynesian sailing in France’s Nacra15 Youth team.Les Perles Noires

LES LEADERS
A match-racing specialist, Yann sailed with Teva Plichart in the Tour de France à la Voile in 2007. He now lives in New Caledonia and had the opportunity to participate in the Sydney Hobart.
Manutea only learned to sail in 2015 but became a legend in his home country when he reached second place in the Tour de France à la Voile in 2017 and won the local Tahiti Pearl Regatta in 2016. With his short but consistent course, he is a benchmark in the team.
