A Life Dedicated to the Ocean Moana’s maritime journey began in 1987 aboard the famous training ship La Fleur de Lampaul, a foundational experience that defined his life's path. In 1989, he entered the fishing school at Île d'Yeu, gaining his first open-ocean experience on tuna trollers. Returning to Tahiti in 1993, he initially worked as a deckhand on new longliners arriving from Concarneau, crisscrossing every corner of Polynesia (Marquises, Tuamotu, Gambier, Australes) as well as the Cook and Kiribati islands. In 1996, he completed his military service in the French Navy aboard the patrol vessel La Tapageuse, a deployment that expanded his horizons to the Tonga and Niue islands. Following these diverse experiences, his leadership led him to become a captain from 2001 to 2017, commanding various tuna vessels ranging from 15 to 25 meters. In 2017, Moana chose to transition his career, leaving commercial longline fishing in 2019 to bring his extensive expertise to the yachting industry. Relying on his vast sea time, he officially validated his skills in 2022, earning his Master 200 and Master 200 Sail captain's certificates along with all required safety modules. As a highly qualified skipper, he has mastered a wide variety of catamarans, including various Lagoon models (620, 43, 42, 40), Fountaine-Pajot yachts (Saba 50, Isla 40, Lucia 40, Tana 47), as well as the Excess 11. Now based in Raiatea for the past three years, where he lives aboard, he initially worked with TradeWinds, catering to a predominantly American clientele. Today, he operates as a freelance professional skipper for Tahiti Yacht Charter. Highly trusted by his clients, he is currently completing a trans-Pacific delivery from Panama. This latest catamaran project was born from a partnership with a former client and investor, alongside Teva Pichard. Together, they are also preparing to represent Tahiti in the upcoming SSL Gold Cup qualifiers in Switzerland, where Moana will serve as a trimmer. A devoted solo father to his two children, Kealohilani and Keahi, Moana beautifully combines a unique lifetime of maritime expertise, family devotion, and an unwavering passion for the seafaring life.Best Results
